BELIEFS & COMMITMENTS

Foundational Beliefs

We all believe in these Biblical teachings that have helped form the foundation of the Christian faith throughout history: 

  • God exists eternally in three persons:  

       Father. Son. Holy Spirit. 

​

  • God is the Creator and Sustainer of all things 

       (Hebrews 11:3) 

​

  • Jesus is the Son of God, the promised Messiah (Christ), the rightful Lord of the universe

       (Acts 2:36) 

​

  • He died for the sins of all and in his body he rose from the grave and appeared to many eye-witnesses

       (1 Corinthians 15:4-8, Acts 2:32) 

  • He ascended to the right hand of the Father where he intercedes for us

       (Romans 8:34) 

​

  • He is the head of the church, his body

       (Colossians 1:18) 

​

  • Only through faith and baptism into Jesus Christ can we come to the Father

       (Matthew 28:19, Acts 2:38, John 14:6)

​ 

  • The Holy Spirit is the empowering presence of God dwelling among God’s people today

       (Ephesians 2:19-22) 

Shared Beliefs

Our teaching, fellowship, and activities are informed and shaped by these beliefs: 

• The Bible is the authoritative and trustworthy word

   of God
 

• Salvation is by God’s grace

   (Ephesians 2:8)

   and includes the forgiveness of sins

   (Colossians 1:13-14) 

   and a transformed life of Spirit-guided, grace-filled,

   love-oriented obedience to our Lord Jesus Christ

   (2 Corinthians 3:17-18) 

• Every believer is called to be a disciple of Jesus

   (Matthew 28:19-20) 
 

• We are part of the global church and we are

   committed to work toward unity and peace with our

   brothers and sisters in other churches throughout

   the world

   (John 17:20-21) 

Congregational Commitments

Our members are called to commit in these ways: 

• Love and honor one another as members of a family (Mark 3:34-35; Romans 12:10)

• Attend Sunday gatherings for worship and fellowship.

​

• Minister actively in the body in love for the common good according to the grace God has given each one (Romans 12:4-8; 1 Corinthians 12:7; 13:4-7; 14:1, 12; Ephesians 4:11-16)

• Pray for one another and for God’s guidance in the mission and the influence of Foothills Church of Christ in the community 

​

• Contribute voluntarily from personal means to support and further the ministry of Foothills Church of Christ
